WASHINGTON. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The United States has again urged the Azerbaijani authorities to restore vehicle traffic along the Lachin corridor, U.S. State Department principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said on Tuesday.
"We urge the government of Azerbaijan to restore free transit of commercial, humanitarian and private vehicles through this corridor," Patel said during a press briefing.
The situation in the region is still a concern for Washington and the halt to the movement of humanitarian goods along the corridor "worsens the humanitarian situation and it undermines efforts that had been in place to build the peace process," he said.
The United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue on Wednesday, Patel added.
Paris also expressed concern over the situation surrounding the blocking of the Lachin corridor. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna spoke with her Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan by phone on Tuesday, and noted the need to resolve all issues through talks in order to achieve peace.
Colonna also emphasized that such actions by Azerbaijan "contravene the commitments undertaken under the ceasefire agreements and harm the negotiation process."
