KUBINKA, Moscow region. Aug 16 (Interfax) - The West is not interested in negotiations on a peace settlement in Ukraine and is instead seeking to make as much money as possible for its defense industry, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has said.
"When they say that it's time to sit at the table and start some negotiations on peace, this is a cunning position. They don't want this. They want to keep the military machine moving to make money for their budgets," Medvedev said while visiting the Army 2023 forum.
Russian forces are "very successful in destroying" military hardware supplied by the West and will continue to do so, Medvedev said. In view of these losses, the West has occasionally "talked about the need to return to the negotiating table and find some compromises," he said.
"But we need to realize that this is only one part of the story, and another part of the story is that the American military industrial complex, as well as the European one, is making money out of this. This is a way for them to make huge sums by supplying their hardware to Ukraine. Therefore, they're making money out of this war," Medvedev said.
