European Commission to allot 135 mln euros to Ukraine, Moldova from programs meant for Russia and Belarus

BRUSSELS. Aug 16 (Interfax) - The European Commission has decided to reassign 135 million euros meant for inter-regional programs with Russia and Belarus in order to strengthen cooperation with Ukraine and Moldova.

"The commission decided to transfer 135 million euros of Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation instrument, originally planned for 2021-2027 Interreg NEXT programs with Russia and Belarus, to other Interreg programs with Ukraine and Moldova," the commission said in a statement.

In particular, the funds will go to transport, healthcare, education and research programs in Ukraine and Moldova, it said.

The European Commission suspended cooperation with Russia and Belarus under inter-regional programs in March 2022, and 26 million euros were reassigned to programs for cooperation with Ukraine and Moldova. The latest decision applies to the remaining funds originally allotted for Russia and Belarus in 2021-2027.
