Russia's Luna 25 automated spacecraft reaches lunar orbit - Roscosmos

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - The Luna 25 automated interplanetary spacecraft has reached lunar orbit, and all of its systems are working properly, Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos said on Wednesday.

"For the first time in Russia's modern history, an automated spacecraft was placed into an orbit [as an] artificial satellite of the Moon at 12:03 p.m. Moscow time," Roscosmos said.

The station reached lunar orbit following two burns of its engine unit, it said.

"The first burn was carried out at 11:57 a.m. Moscow time using a retro vernier thruster and lasted 243 seconds, and the second used a soft landing engine and lasted 76 seconds," it said.

All of Luna 25's systems are functioning as planned, communication with it is stable, and its navigation parameters are being measured regularly, it said.
