MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has discussed in a telephone call with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and around the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization process, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Lavrov noted the priority of the objective to promptly resolve the acute humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh taking into account the work done as part of the implementation of the set of Russian-Armenian-Azerbaijani trilateral statements made at the summit level in 2020-2022 and the agreements of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders confirming the 1991 Almaty Declaration," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.
It was emphasized during the call that "focusing on coordinating mutually acceptable practical steps 'on the ground' is fundamentally important for the settlement," the statement said.
"Along these lines, the parties had an exchange of views on the prospects of the debates on the Karabakh issue in the United Nations Security Council," it said.
The parties also addressed separate issues on the bilateral agenda, including upcoming contacts at various levels.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry's press service said earlier that the two ministers had had a telephone call.
