Azerbaijani positions attacked near border with Armenia - Azerbaijani Defense Ministry

BAKU. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani positions came under fire from the Armenian Armed Forces near the Azerbaijani-Armenian border on Wednesday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

"Units of the Armenian Armed Forces repeatedly opened fire from small arms of various caliber at positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the direction of the settlement of Yellija in the Kalbajar district [near the Azerbaijani-Armenian border] from positions in the direction of the Azizli settlement in the Basarkechar district starting at 6:20 p.m. on August 16," the ministry said.

Azerbaijani army units took retaliatory measures, it said.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said earlier that units of the Armenian Armed Forces stationed in the direction of the Birali settlement in the Develi district had opened fire using small arms of various caliber at positions of the Azerbaijani army in the direction of the Sadarak district in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic at 5 p.m. on August 16.
