KRASNOYARSK. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Security Service's (FSB) branch for the Krasnoyarsk Territory jointly with the FSB's department for the Central Military District and the Russian Guard's special rapid deployment force, prevented a terrorist attack in the city of Zelenogorsk, the press service for the FSB regional branch said.
Two followers of the Citizens of the USSR interregional public movement, banned in Russia, plotted to blow up cell towers of Rostelecom and TransTeleCom in Zelenogorsk in order to hamper the Defense Ministry from sending call-up notices via the Gosuslugi public services website, the FSB branch said.
"For this purpose, they planned to buy, through a third person, TNT blocks and an initiating explosive device, which consisted of a KPM-1 dynamo condenser exploder fitted with an electric detonator and a Bickford fuse. However, the plotters could not accomplish their plans, as they were detained by officers of the FSB's regional branch while receiving the explosives," it said.
The men have been charged with illegal procurement, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or possession of explosive substances or explosive devices and with plotting to perpetrate an act of terrorism. They have been detained and remanded in custody.
