New sonar for detecting underwater saboteurs presented at Army 2023 forum

KUBINKA, Moscow region. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The Sea Underwater Weapon - Gidropribor company of the Tactical Missiles Corporation has presented the Mayak-S stationary sonar for detecting small-sized underwater targets at the Army 2023 international military-technical forum, the company's press service said on Thursday.

"The new sonar detects a swimmer at distances of at least 600 meters. Larger targets, including transports of underwater saboteurs and submersibles, are identified at distances between 800 meters and one kilometer," the press service said.

"Mayak-S has a higher target detection reliability, a better tracking algorithm, and an upgraded system for technical parameters control, which can now be adjusted to adapt the system to specific environments," it said.

"The new system has a smaller size thanks to the profound upgrade of the Mayak-2014 sonar of the previous generation," the press service said.

Practically none of the developers of similar systems has ensured the effective isolation of the weak signal amid strong underwater interference, it said.

"Whereas we have developed and patented a method for detecting underwater objects and a respective device," the press service quoted a representative of the Sonar Research and Production Center, a subsidiary of Gidropribor, as saying.

The sonar has repeatedly demonstrated its competitive edge during trials held at various sites and in waters with the participation of Russian security services, the press service said.
