Azerbaijani FM, EU special envoy discuss process of normalizing Yerevan-Baku relations

BAKU. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar on Wednesday discussed the process of normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan, the progress made in these negotiations involving international mediators and the situation in the region, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry said.

Bayramov accused Armenia of staging military-political provocations in the region recently and of making unsubstantiated statements about a blockade and a humanitarian crisis there, the ministry said.

Bayramov believes that such moves by Yerevan do not contribute to peace and stability in the region, the ministry said.

Furthermore, the derailment by Yerevan of agreements on using the Aghdam-Khankendi road simultaneously with intensifying traffic on the Lachin road and on a reintegration meeting with representatives of the ethnic Armenian population (of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan) shows that Armenia is not interested in normalizing relations with Azerbaijan, Bayramov said.

"The parties also exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest," the ministry said.
