FSB prevents attempted spying for Ukraine in Pskov region

PSKOV. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The Pskov regional branch of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented a Ukrainian citizen's attempt to gather information for Ukrainian security services, the branch's press service said on Thursday.

A man born in Dnepropetrovsk was detained while crossing into the Russian territory in the Pechora district in May 2023.

"It appeared that a career officer of the Security Service of Ukraine had tasked him with gathering information about border guards and Ukrainians cooperating with law enforcement agencies. Given the available evidence, the man admitted to being an agent of the Security Service of Ukraine since October 2022 and traveling to Russia on orders from the security service but said he did not have time to gather and hand over the intelligence," the press service said.

The FSB's Pskov regional branch officially warned the Ukrainian citizen about the inadmissibility of actions preparing for a crime defined as espionage.

He was barred from entering Russia until 2053.

In all, the branch has prevented the attempts of ten agents of Ukrainian security services to cross into Russia since the start of 2023, the press service said.
