Uzbek president discharges his chief of staff, appoints him special presidential advisor

TASHKENT. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Sardor Umurzakov, who has served as head of the Uzbek presidential office since July 2022, has been relieved from office and appointed special presidential advisor, the presidential press service said.

"In line with the president of Uzbekistan's decree, Sardor Uktamovich Umurzakov has been appointed special advisor to the president of Uzbekistan and, in connection with this, has been relieved of his office as head of the president of Uzbekistan's administration," it said.

Umurzakov was born in 1977. He graduated from Tashkent State University of Economics and University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He started his career at National Bank of Uzbekistan and worked later at the Finance Ministry's treasury department. He was appointed minister of investments and foreign trade in January 2019. From March 2020, he served as deputy prime minister and minister of investments and foreign trade.

The previous head of the presidential office, Zainilobiddin Nozimiddinov, was discharged for health reasons on July 8, 2022, after which he occupied office as first deputy chairman of the Uzbek Trade Unions Federation.
