Azerbaijan accuses Armenian troops in Karabakh of radio interference causing GPS failure on AZAL plane

BAKU. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The GPS navigation system on an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) ATR-45 passenger aircraft, en route from Fizuli to Baku, failed on Monday due to radio interference by Armenian military formations in the country's Karabakh region, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

Armenian formations have intensified the use of radio interference against the GPS satellite navigation systems of passenger aircraft of local and foreign airlines flying in Azerbaijani air space, the ministry said.

"The GPS satellite navigation system of an Azerbaijan Airlines ATR-45 passenger aircraft, en route from Fizuli to Baku, failed as a result of radio interference from 10:15 a.m. to 10:23 a.m. on August 21," the ministry said in a statement.

The command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent has been informed about the event, but any measures have yet to be taken, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.
