Iranian senior commander arrives in Moscow - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Iranian Ground Forces Commander Gen. Kioumars Heydari has arrived in Moscow and has negotiated with Russian Ground Forces Commander Oleg Salyukov on bilateral military cooperation, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"A military delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces led by Ground Forces Commander Brig. Gen. Kioumars Heydari has arrived in Moscow to discuss aspects of the bilateral military cooperation," the ministry said on Monday.

"The official part of the bilateral negotiations took place at the [Russian] Ground Forces command headquarters, where the parties discussed aspects of military cooperation and interaction aimed at implementing projects to enhance the combat preparedness of the two countries' armed forces," it said.

"The Russian Federation views Iran as a key state in the Middle East. It is Russia's strategic partner, and an ongoing intensive political dialogue is a distinctive feature of the current stage in our partnership," the Russian Defense Ministry quoted Salyukov as saying at the negotiations.
