MINSK. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Belarus will carry out a training exercise for territorial defense forces in the Vitebsk region bordering Lithuania and Latvia, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
"In line with a plan for training territorial defense command bodies and the military units of territorial forces, a training exercise for territorial defense reservists is being conducted under the command of the chairman of the Polotsk district executive committee in the Vitebsk region from August 22 to September 14," it said.
The training exercise aims to test public officials' skills in forming territorial defense units and those of reservists in carrying out their military duties, it said.
The exercise participants are due to practice accommodating territorial defense force reservists, providing them with the equipment they need from the resources of a local mobilization deployment base, refreshing command skills, and training reservists in line with their military specialties and service duties.
The exercise participants will also practice forming, training, and employing a militia unit in action.
