MAGADAN. Aug 22 (Interfax) - The United States and its allies are waging an informational and psychological war against Russia, which includes efforts to actively force pro-Western education, culture, and art projects, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.
"The U.S., England, and their minions have started an informational and psychological war aimed at destroying Russia, corrupting its civil society, and ruining our way of living. The global anti-Russian campaign they have launched has in fact evolved into ideological confrontation," Patrushev said in Magadan at a conference on security of Russia's Far East.
The West "is making efforts to erode Russian spiritual and moral values, culture, and history," he said.
"There have been increasingly more frequent attempts to inspire separatist sentiment, foment interethnic discord, and spread pro-Western values and moral attitudes alien to our culture," he said.
This influence is targeted "primarily at the young audience with the purpose of distorting ideas of patriotism and belittling Russia's geopolitical role in the modern world order," he said.
"Pro-Western educational, cultural, and art projects are being imposed for the same purpose," he said.
"Therefore, it is extremely important to take prompt preemptive measures to protect our population from destructive informational and psychological influence. A reliable barrier should be put in the way of extremist products and propaganda of violence and interethnic intolerance, including via the Internet," Patrushev said.
He also called for measures to oppose the falsification of history.
"This would be promoted by the publication of a new history textbook for high-school students, which is uniform for all educational establishments, as well as efforts to make citizens aware of the Russian state's foreign and domestic policy and the special military operation's goals and objectives," Patrushev said.
