Fourteen Ukrainian attacks repelled in past 24 hours - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Fourteen Ukrainian attacks have been repelled in the special military operation zone in the past 24 hours, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"In the Kupyansk sector, units from the western group of forces repelled five attacks by assault units of the 41st, 66th and 67th Mechanized Brigades and the 25th Airborne Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Sinkovka in the Kharkov region and Novosyolovskoye and Raigorodok in the Lugansk People's Republic," Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

Another four attacks of the enemy were repelled in the Zaporozhye sector, three in the Donetsk sector, and two in the Krasny Liman sector, he said.

In the Kupyansk sector, "the enemy lost up to 65 Ukrainian troops, four infantry vehicles, two trucks, a D-20 howitzer, and a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-50 counter-mortar radar," Konashenkov said.

"An ammo depot of the 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade was destroyed near Tabayevka in the Kharkov region," he said.

"In the Zaporozhye sector, units of the Russian group of forces, aircraft strikes and artillery fire repelled four attacks by units of the 65th Mechanized Brigade and the 82nd Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Uspenovka and Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region. Over 125 Ukrainian troops were killed, and three infantry vehicles, two armored combat vehicles, and nine trucks were destroyed over the day," Konashenkov said.

"Effective counterbattery measures taken in that area in the past 24 hours hit 11 guns and four mortars of the enemy, including two U.S.-made M777 artillery systems, three U.S.-made M119 towed howitzers, as well as self-propelled artillery systems: a Polish-made Krab, a French-made Cezar, and a British-made FH-70," he said.

"In the Donetsk sector, units from the southern group of forces, supported by aircraft and artillery, repelled three attacks by assault units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Novomikhailovka and Avdeyevka in the Donetsk People's Republic. In that area, the enemy lost up to 235 Ukrainian troops, five infantry vehicles, two trucks, two U.S.-made M777 artillery systems, a Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery system, a Msta-B howitzer, and a U.S.-made AN/TPQ-36 counterbattery radar," Konashenkov said.

In the Krasny Liman sector, units from the central group of forces, army aviation, artillery and heavy flamethrowers repelled two attacks by assault units of the 63rd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Chervonaya Dibrova in the Lugansk People's Republic. "The enemy lost over 50 Ukrainian troops, three armored combat vehicles and two D-30 howitzers," he said.
