MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor have discussed strengthening political and economic ties between the two countries at a meeting in Johannesburg, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday
During their conversation on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, the two foreign ministers "touched on various aspects of the Russia-South Africa strategic partnership, including strengthening political, trade and economic and humanitarian ties," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
"They emphasized the two countries' determination to more closely coordinate actions on issues on the current international and regional agenda within the United Nations, BRICS and on other authoritative platforms. Lavrov praised the efforts of the South African chairmanship in BRICS, [...] and expressed confidence that the Johannesburg top-level meeting will become an important step on the path toward deeper interaction in the BRICS-Africa format," it said.
