MINSK. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Belarus is interested in joining the New BRICS Development Bank, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik said when speaking at the 15th BRICS Summit on Thursday.
"We are ready to join BRICS efforts to increase mutual settlements in national currencies and create common payment instruments. The dominance of the dollar and the euro in international trade poses more and more global risks, and the financial policies of their issuers are not trustworthy. Developing countries should be protected from arbitrariness and be able to trade safely," Aleinik was quoted by the SB. Belarus Today state-run newspaper as saying.
"The New BRICS Development Bank and its initiative to fund more projects in local currencies can play a key role in this process," he added.
"Belarus is interested in starting work on joining this young but promising international financial institution," Aleinik said.
