MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - The Russian fighter jets have again been scrambled to prevent the United States drones from conducting reconnaissance near Crimea, the Russian military said.
"On August 28, over the southwestern part of the Black Sea, the Russian Aerospace Forces' airspace control means detected a flight towards the state border of the Russian Federation by the U.S. Air Force's MQ-9 Reaper and RQ-4 Global Hawk drones conducting aerial reconnaissance near the Crimean Peninsula," the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
Two Russian fighter jets from the on-duty air defense forces were scrambled in order to prevent a possible violation of the Russian state border and to counter the radio-technical reconnaissance by the U.S. unmanned aerial vehicles, it said.
"As a result of the actions undertaken by the on-duty air defense forces, the U.S. Air Force surveillance unmanned aerial vehicles changed their course and left their aerial reconnaissance areas," the military said.
A Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet was scrambled to shadow a U.S. MQ-9A Reaper spy drone over the Black Sea, the Russian National Defense Control Center said on Sunday.
