MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - The Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center has received about 20 packages of documents from candidates during the open recruitment campaign to the Roscosmos cosmonaut unit, three of them from women, Cosmonaut Training Center head Maxim Kharlamov said.
"We have already received about 20 good packages of documents and the commission is preparing to consider them," Kharlamov said on Monday.
Women have filed three applications for selection as cosmonaut candidates, he said.
"For now, the commission has not considered any candidates, not only women, but the commission has not yet had its first meeting in general, but in the near future it will be held and at least three female representatives will be considered," the Cosmonaut Training Center head said.
On July 10, Roscosmos announced the launch of the fourth open selection for the cosmonaut unit, and any Russian citizen under 35 can participate in the competition, applications from candidates will be accepted until October 30, 2023.
On July 13, Kharlamov said that the names of new cosmonaut candidates will be announced in March 2024.
The state corporation plans to select four to six cosmonauts as part of a new open recruitment campaign, Roscosmos Executive Director for Manned Space Programs Sergei Krikalev said.
