MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - A sabotage group, made up of officers of Ukraine's Security Service, Main Intelligence Directorate and Special Operations Forces and plotting a series of terrorist attacks in Russia, has been neutralized in the Bryansk region, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said.
"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation together with the Federal National Guard Service and the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation thwarted operations of a Ukrainian sabotage and terrorist group in Russian territory on August 30, 2023. The group consisted of officers of the Security Service of Ukraine and servicemen of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry," the FSB press center said.
The goal of the sabotage group was to stage a series of terrorist attacks on military and energy infrastructure facilities, it said.
"During the security operation in the Navlya district of the Bryansk region, two militants were killed and five were detained, three of whom were wounded," it said.
The saboteurs were armed with U.S.-made automatic weapons equipped with silencers, powerful explosive devices, a large number of NATO-standard grenades and cartridges, and night-vision devices, the press center said.
"A criminal case will be opened," the press center said without providing further details of the special operation.
