VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Russian Pacific Fleet ships have evacuated over 1,000 people and more than 30 vehicles from the Zarubino port in Primorye to Vladivostok, Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako said on Thursday.
"The Nikolai Vilkov landing ship, the GS-84 hydrographic vessel, the PZhK-1514 firefighting boat, the VM-20 diving boat, and the RB-404 harbor tugboat have taken aboard 1,074 people and 34 vehicles at the Zarubino port," Kozhemyako said on Telegram.
Tourists embarked the Pacific Fleet ships on the coast near Andreyevka and headed to Vladivostok.
The governor said earlier that thousands of tourists were stranded in the Khasan district as torrential rain washed away roads and bridges.
The Pacific Fleet unit led by the Nikolai Vilkov landing ship and comprising a hydrographic vessel, a firefighting boat, a diving boat and tugboat departed from bases in Vladivostok for Zarubino on Thursday morning. The ships will perform shuttle trips for the next three days to evacuate everyone from the coast. As reported, they can transport around 40 vehicles and 700 people from Zarubino to Vladivostok at a time.
On Wednesday, Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako asked Pacific Fleet Commander Adm. Viktor Liina to provide a landing ship to transport people from the flood zone, and the admiral gave the corresponding instructions.
