Yerevan, Baku report new attacks

YEREVAN. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani forces have resumed shooting in the Gegharkunik region of eastern Armenia, the Armenian Defense Ministry said.

"As of 12:25 p.m., Azerbaijani army units opened fire with small arms at Armenian positions in the Norabak area, 12 kilometers south of Sotk," the Armenian Defense Ministry's press service said.

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces are deploying military hardware and reinforcements to the eastern sector, the press service said.

The ministry said later that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had used a drone and mortars. "The Azerbaijani Armed Forces used a drone and a mortar in the Sotk area at 12:50 p.m.," it said.

In turn, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported ongoing Armenian shooting at Azerbaijani positions and the use of mortars.

"Mortars of the Armenian Armed Forces stationed in Zod in the Basarkechar region are shelling Azerbaijani army positions in the Kalbajar region," the ministry said.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani defense ministries reported a border engagement on Friday morning. Yerevan said that two servicemen had died and another had been wounded. Baku reported that three servicemen had been wounded.
