MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - A majority of Russians (78%) would approve of basic military training classes at Russian high schools, a poll by VCIOM found.
This group of respondents cited the need for basic military skills including handling a firearm, providing first-aid and self-defense, the VCIOM website said on Monday.
Nine percent of respondents were of the opposite view.
One in ten (10%) partially approve and partially disapprove of the subject, 2% were indifferent, and 1% did not know what to say about the matter, the findings show.
The nationwide telephone survey was conducted among 1,600 adults for the Expert Institute of Social Studies on August 31, 2023.
Starting from the new school year, Russia introduced basic military training as a module of the "Life Safety Basics" subject for 10- and 11-grade pupils.
