Drone downed in Istra near Moscow was carrying explosive elements - local administration

KRASNOGORSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - A drone downed over the municipality of Istra near Moscow in the early hours of Tuesday was carrying explosive elements, according to preliminary findings, Tatyana Vitusheva, head of the Istra administration, said on Tuesday.

"Preliminary findings indicate that the improvised UAV downed over the Istra municipal district was carrying explosive elements, as seen from the initial examination of the downed aerial vehicle's fragments. The fragments have been collected to undergo an expert examination. Emergency services are continuing their work. The capacity of the explosive elements carried by the UAV has yet to be determined," Vitusheva wrote on her Telegram account.

As reported earlier, air defense systems downed a drone over Istra at 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday. The drone's falling debris set an outbuilding at a local horticultural community on fire, which has now been extinguished.

The shock wave from the crash also caused minor damage to five nearby homes, Vitusheva said. Municipal services are continuing house-to-house inquiries to examine the surrounding households and clean up the damage caused, she said.
