MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in the East Asia Summit in Jakarta on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing.
"At the event, we consider it important to discuss the challenges that the Asia-Pacific region faces today," Zakharova said.
In particular, Russia "intends to highlight the risks of aggravating the military and political situation in the Asia-Pacific region against the backdrop of the West's policy aimed at expanding what they call the geographical zone of NATO's responsibility," she said.
"We plan to continue work to launch the region's common mechanism for a collective response to epidemiological threats, [and] to promote cooperation in the tourism sector and interaction among volunteer movements," Zakharova said.
During his visit to Jakarta, Lavrov will hold a series of meetings with regional partners and representatives of multilateral organizations, she said.
On September 7-8, Lavrov will also pay a working visit to Bangladesh, where he will hold talks with the country's prime minister and foreign minister, Zakharova said.
"During the upcoming visit, the parties will discuss the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their further development in detail, and will exchange views on the most important regional and international problems," she said.
Lavrov will also head Russia's delegation to the G20 summit in New Delhi on September 9-10, Zakharova said.
