YEREVAN. Sept 7 (Interfax) - The military-political situation in the region has escalated considerably, and the international community should take measures to prevent a new outburst of conflict, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"The military-political situation in our region has escalated considerably. The reason is that Azerbaijan has been amassing forces along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and the border with Armenia in recent days. Anti-Armenian rhetoric has intensified. The policy of claims for the Armenian sovereign territory continues," Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.
The humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh has reached its peak, he said.
"Azerbaijan demonstrates the inclination towards another military provocation against Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia. They introduce theses, which fall short of the reality into their discourse. The international community and UN member states should take serious measures to prevent a new outburst of conflict in our region," Pashinyan said.
He reaffirmed Yerevan's commitment to the agreements reached in Brussels on December 14, 2021, Prague on October 6, 2022 and Brussels in May 2023 and the trilateral statement signed by the Armenian prime minister and the Russian and Azerbaijani presidents on November 9, 2020.
"The Baku-Stepanakert dialogue conducted as part of the international mechanism to ensure the rights and security of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians and the unblocking of the Lachin corridor in accordance with the International Court of Justice's rulings of February 22 and July 6, 2023, are essential. On that basis, Armenia is ready and willing to conclude a peace agreement and settle relations with Azerbaijan. We reaffirm our commitment to the peace agenda," Pashinyan said.
