Russian emergencies minister announces meeting with BRICS counterparts in Kazan in July 2024

DURBAN, South Africa. Sept 8 (Interfax) - The emergency situations ministers from BRICS member states will meet in Russia's Kazan in July 2024, Russian Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov said.

As reported, Russia will be presiding in BRICS in 2024.

"A meeting of emergency situations ministers from BRICS member states is due to be held in the offline format in Kazan in July 2024," Kurenkov said at a meeting of the BRICS working group in South Africa on Friday.

He also announced a meeting of the BRICS working group for disaster risk management due in Arkhangelsk in April 2024.

The ministry also plans to organize "the training of shifts on duty at crisis management centers" in February 2024.

Kurenkov said on Thursday that firefighters from BRICS member states would conduct an exercise on the sidelines of the Integrated Safety and Security Exhibition next year. The training will take place at the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's State Firefighting Service Academy and Noginsk Rescue Center in May 2024.

Representatives of rescue services from Iran, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, the UAE and Egypt will be invited to those events. They will join BRICS activity on January 1, 2024.

A delegation led by Kurenkov is paying a working visit to Durban, South Africa, on September 7-8.

BRICS is a pentalateral group comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
