BRUSSELS. Sept 8 (Interfax) - A batch of ten Leopard 1 tanks donated to Kiev by Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands has arrived in Ukraine, Western media reported on Friday, citing the Danish Defense Ministry.
"The first 10 tanks have been sent to Ukraine. And more are on the way," the ministry said.
Another ten tanks have arrived from the manufacturing facility to be subsequently shipped to Ukraine, the ministry said. Danish military instructors are training Ukrainian military service members to operate them in Germany, it said.
As reported in February, Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands will deliver Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine. Der Spiegel said the German government gave its consent to transferring 178 German-made Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.
The Leopard 1 was manufactured from 1965 to 1984 and was in service with the German military until 2010. More than ten countries still have the tank on their armed forces' inventories. The Leopard 1 has been upgraded regularly, and a total of over 4,700 such tanks of different variants have been manufactured.
