Estonian Supreme Court declines to reverse decision to deport pro-Russian activist

TALLINN. Sept 11 (Interfax) - The Supreme Court of Estonia has declined to reverse a decision to deport pro-Russian activist Alexei Yesakov from the country.

His cassation appeal was thrown out by the Supreme Court, meaning that he has definitively lost his dispute with the country's authorities, ERR reported on Monday. In October 2022, Yesakov's claim seeking a reversal of the deportation decision was declined by an administrative court, and in summer 2023 it was declined by a county court.

In his claim, Yesakov sought a reversal of the decision of the Police and Border Guard Board to revoke his residence permit. The agency demanded the Russian citizen immediately leave Estonia. In addition, Yesakov was banned from entering the Schengen area for five years.

The security police found that Yesakov, while an organizer of the Immortal Regiment in Estonia, "publicly fanned ethnic discord and spread Kremlin propaganda" for many years.

He is also a board member of the Russian Compatriots of Europe NGO.

Yesakov now lives in Russia.
