Putin yet to announce plans to run for reelection, has no competition - Peskov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has not announced plans to run for reelection but it is obvious that he enjoys the absolute support of the population, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The president has not said he will run for reelection. If we assume that the president decides to run after all, then there is no real competition for the president in our country at this stage," Peskov said in an interview with RBC.

"He enjoys the absolute support of the population. These are both great opportunities and a great responsibility," he said.

The elections which concluded yesterday "are the most illustrative example of the absolute consolidation of society around the national leadership," Peskov said.

"The level of support gained by the incumbent regional heads proves that the president has the same support. The overwhelming majority of them are governors backed by the president," he said.
