YEREVAN. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Humanitarian aid from the Russian government has been delivered to Nagorno-Karabakh through the Azerbaijani territory.
"The government of the Russian Federation has initiated the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Republic of Artsakh [the Armenian name for Nagorno-Karabakh]. Today, on September 12, the humanitarian cargo arrived in the Republic of Artsakh with the permission from the republic's administration via the city of Askeran [the road between Aghdam, Azerbaijan, and Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh] by trucks of the Russian Red Cross. The aid includes vital goods made in Russia," the joint information center of the unrecognized republic said.
A source familiar with the situation told Interfax that Russia and Azerbaijan had agreed on Russia's proposal to bring humanitarian aid through Azerbaijani territory, to be followed by the reopening of traffic between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh through the Lachin corridor.
"The delivery of humanitarian cargo through the Lachin corridor by the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the International Committee of the Red Cross is expected to resume within 12 to 24 hours," the source said.
