Russian embassy condemns desecration of Soviet-era tank monument in Moldova

CHISINAU. Sept 12 (Interfax) - The Russian embassy in Chisinau has condemned what it described as "a fresh upsurge of anti-Russian hysteria" in Moldova after a tank monument to Soviet soldiers was desecrated in the Cornesti village, Ungheni region, overnight into September 11.

"The slogans of Bandera henchmen were painted on the plaques of the monument with a complete sense of impunity and permissiveness [...] An encroachment on the historical memory of the Moldovan people is nothing other than the result of the ever louder narratives that demonize the country's Soviet past," the embassy said.

Hopefully, Moldovan law enforcement agencies will take exhaustive measures to identify those guilty and to hold them to account, the diplomatic mission said.
