Russian ships conduct simulated missile launches during exercise in Baltic Sea amid NATO maneuvers

MOSCOW. Sept 13 (Interfax) - The Odintsovo and Grad small missile ships have practiced delivering strikes using missiles of Kalibr sea-launched missile systems in the Baltic Sea, the press service for Russia's Baltic Fleet said on Wednesday.

"A naval strike group comprising the Grad and Odintsovo small missile ships performed simulated missile launches of Kalibr missiles at targets imitating detachments of combat ships of a mock enemy, as well as coastal targets of a mock enemy located at a considerable distance from the ships, at naval ranges of the Baltic Fleet," the press service said.

All designated targets were successfully hit during the simulated launches, it said.

The crews practiced anti-sabotage defense, organizing interaction and communication between the ships, and elements of joint navigation, it said.

The Northern Coasts 2023 NATO naval exercise began off the coast of Latvia and Estonia last weekend. The exercise, led by the German Navy, will last until September 23. The maneuvers reportedly involve around 3,200 personnel, 30 ships and submarines, and up to 15 aircraft from 14 countries.

The Kalibr is a family of Russian long-range cruise missiles developed by the Novator design bureau, which is a subsidiary of the Almaz-Antey concern. Russian naval ships and submarines are equipped with these missiles.
