MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Operators of the Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile system have practiced counterstrikes against mock enemy positions during an exercise in the Kaliningrad region, the Baltic Fleet said in a statement on Tuesday.
"After moving the Iskander-M system into its combat position, the troops carried out simulated missile launches. To avoid another enemy attack, the missile troops maneuvered to a new position a second time," the statement said.
The exercise involved "exposure to a sudden attack by mock sabotage and reconnaissance groups and a mock chemical attack near [the troops'] positions," it said.
"The combat training exercise involved around 100 personnel and around ten units of military and special hardware from the missile unit of the Baltic Fleet's army corps," the statement said.
The Iskander-M system was designed by the Kolomna-based KB Mashinostroyenia (owned by Rostec's High Precision Systems). The system includes two types of missile, ballistic and cruise versions. Its official range is a maximum of 500 kilometers.
