MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev discussed the situation in the Middle East with the crown prince of Oman during his trip to the country, the Russian Security Council said.
"During Patrushev's meeting with Crown Prince Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said of Oman, the two exchanged opinions on problems of global challenges and threats. Special attention was attached to the situation in the Middle East," it said.
The same day, Russia and Oman held security consultations attended by representatives from the Russian Security Council, Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry, Federal Security Service (FSB), and Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).
"The parties extensively discussed prospects of Russian-Omani bilateral relations, cooperation on information security, and interaction between law enforcement agencies, special services, and financial intelligence agencies. Apart from that, they addressed the implementation of some economic projects," it said.
The agreements reached at the consultations "will help bring Russian-Omani relations to a qualitatively new level," it said.
While in Muscat, Patrushev held negotiations with Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, minister of the Royal Office, to discuss a broad range of aspects of Russian-Omani interaction in various fields, it said.
"Apart from that, Patrushev had a meeting with Omani National Security Council Secretary General Idris Al Kindi. Following the negotiations, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding between the office of the Russian Security Council and the secretariat of the National Security Council of the Sultanate of Oman," it said.
