Damage from riots at Makhachkala airport estimated at several million rubles - airport general director

MAKHACHKALA. Oct 30 (Interfax) - The damage from the riots at the Makhachkala airport is estimated at several million rubles, the airport's General Director Said Ramazanov said citing tentative estimations.

"According to tentative estimations, the damage reaches several millions of rubles, but no more than 10 million rubles. The scale of damage has not been assessed in detail yet," Ramazanov said.

On Sunday night, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) said that the Makhachkala airport was temporarily closed to both inbound and outbound flights after unidentified individuals gained unauthorized access to the airport's apron.

Over 150 active participants in the riots have been identified, and 60 of them have been detained and taken to local police offices for further inquiries. Their homes have been searched. A criminal case was opened into the organization of mass riots.

The Dagestani Health Ministry said about 20 people were injured in the riots, and two of them were in critical condition. The Interior Ministry said nine police officers were among the casualties.

Five people, including two in serious condition due to head injuries, remained hospitalized as of Monday morning.

The Makhachkala airport has now resumed services.
