MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax) - Police have detained more than 80 people believed to have participated in the riots that took place at the airport in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia's Republic of Dagestan, late on Sunday and in the early hours of Monday, the press service for the Russian Interior Ministry's department for the North Caucasus Administrative District said.
"At this point, 83 people involved in criminal activities have been detained," the department told reporters on Monday.
The operational situation in the region remains under the control of law enforcement authorities, it said.
"The police warns that any attempts to complicate the operational situation in the republic will be neutralized immediately," the department said.
