Israeli authorities ask citizens to avoid trips to N. Caucasus

JERUSALEM. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The Israeli National Security Council and Foreign Ministry have issued a travel alert for the North Caucasus.

"Pursuant to last night's events and in light of the Swords of Iron war as well as concerns for possible attacks, expanded protests, and violence against Israeli/Jewish targets in the northern Caucasus area, the National Security Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are updating the travel warning to the highest level," the joint statement said.

The so-called blacklist includes the republics of Adygea, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kalmykia, Karachayevo-Cherkessia and North Ossetia and the Krasnodar and Stavropol territories of Russia.

The National Security Council and Foreign Ministry recommend leaving those areas.

They also recommend that Israelis "reconsider the necessity of travel abroad," while those on a foreign trip "be alert, avoid demonstrations and protests, and listen to local security forces upon encountering events."
