FSB detains Kemerovo region resident for taking part in Ukrainian cyberattacks on Russia

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - A resident of the Kemerovo region, who joined a Ukrainian hacker group and took part in attacks on Russian critical infrastructure, has been detained, the public relations center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Tuesday.

"It was found that the detainee joined a Ukrainian cyber group, acting to the benefit of Ukrainian intelligence services, via an online messenger and participated in malware-based cyberattacks on Russian information resources that disrupted the operation of national critical infrastructure elements," the FSB said.

The detention took place in the town of Belovo, "computers and communication devices" were seized during searches, and evidence of the criminal activity was obtained.

The detainee was charged with treason and taken into custody, the FSB said.
