MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - A Russian Emergency Situations Ministry plane carrying humanitarian aid for the Gaza population has taken off from the Zhukovsky airport outside Moscow and is heading to Egypt, a report published on the ministry's Telegram channel said.
"Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry is to deliver 21 tonnes of humanitarian aid for the population of the Gaza Strip, including emergency lighting equipment, generators, medications, and food supplies. [...] The ministry's [Ilyushin] Il-76 took off from the Moscow region's Zhukovsky airport en route to the Arab Republic of Egypt, where the humanitarian cargo will be handed over to representatives of the Egyptian Red Crescent," the report said.
The Russian humanitarian aid delivery was organized on orders from Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov in cooperation with the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO), it said.
"Russia has been the chair of the Executive Council of the International Civil Defense Organization since October of this year. As part of this joint work, ICDO has been providing enormous assistance to the humanitarian missions for the affected population of Gaza," the report said.
