YEREVAN. Nov 17 (Interfax) - The construction of the Margara crossing point on the Armenian-Turkish border will be completed next week, head of Armenia's State Revenue Committee Rustam Badasyan told journalists on Friday.
"The issue of equipping the border crossing required an urgent solution to enable people with diplomatic passports and citizens of third countries to cross the border between Armenia and Turkey," Badasyan said.
At the same time, he declined to comment on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, adding that the Foreign Ministry is in charge of this process.
As for revenue from the Margara crossing's operations, Badasyan said that calculations are being conducted, but there is an axiomatic truth that "an open border is better than a closed border."
The border between Armenia and Turkey will hopefully be opened soon for certain categories of citizens, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said on November 3.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the process of normalizing relations between the two countries and implementing agreements on opening the Armenian-Turkish border for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports during a phone call in late June.
