MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax) - Russian marines have been thwarting the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attempts to land on the left bank of the Dnieper, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The enemy's operations in this sector have been unsuccessful," the ministry said in a statement.
"In the Kherson sector of the special military operation, units of the 810th Separate Guard Zhukov and Ushakov Orders Marine Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet have been thwarting all attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conduct a landing operation on the Dnieper islands and the left bank of the Dnieper River," it said.
"The enemy has been sustaining losses in killed and wounded on a daily basis, also losing military hardware on the right bank of the Dnieper, as it makes unsuccessful attempts to land on islands at the river's mouth," the ministry said.
Russian artillery and military aircraft have been destroying the Ukrainian army's command posts and weapons and hardware depots, it said.
Russian marine units expose well in advance Ukrainian plans to deploy forces from the right bank of the Dnieper, the ministry said. All speedboats carrying Ukrainian personnel are destroyed while crossing the river, it said.
The surviving Ukrainian soldiers prefer to surrender to the Russian forces, the ministry said.
The Ukrainian army suffered considerable losses in the Kherson sector on the right bank of the Dnieper and during attempts to land on islands, ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on November 17.
On November 10, Konashenkov said Ukrainian forces made unsuccessful landing attempts to seize bridgeheads on islands and the left bank of the Dnieper. Russian forces struck units of the Ukrainian army's 35th and 36th Marine Brigades.
