NATO's idea of 'military Schengen' escalates tensions in Europe - Kremlin (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax) - NATO's idea of a 'military Schengen' is an escalation of tensions in Europe, which has consequences and proves the reluctance to listen to Russia's concerns, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The alliance has always deemed our country to be the so-called conditional adversary. Now it openly views our country as an obvious adversary. This is nothing but an escalation of tensions in Europe, which has consequences," Peskov told reporters in response to a related question.

"Such statements underline that Europe is reluctant to listen to our concerns and disregards the immutable principle of indivisible security. That is, they talk about their security to the detriment of ours," Peskov said.

It is NATO military infrastructure that keeps expanding towards the Russian border, not vice versa, Peskov said.

"We are not expanding towards NATO infrastructure, it's NATO that is expanding towards us. This cannot help but cause our concern and countermeasures aimed at ensuring national security," he said.
