FSB proposes that border guards protect Russian non-diplomatic offices abroad

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - The Federal Security Service (FSB) has proposed that border guards protect Russian representative offices abroad which are neither embassies nor consulates, amid increased security threats.

A draft amending the respective presidential order was published on the website of draft laws and regulations.

The draft's explanatory note says that, currently, border guards help protect Russian missions and consulates abroad.

"At the same time, an increase in acts of vandalism and the number of protests and demonstrations in front of Russian missions and offices of Russian companies abroad and the attempted trespassing on their premises suggest the need for stronger security," the explanatory note said.

"Therefore, it is proposed that the Russian FSB be tasked with the assignment of border guards to protect Russian representative offices (other than embassies and consulates) abroad," it said.
