YEKATERINBURG. Dec 11 (Interfax) - Motorized infantry of Russia's 201st base have conducted an exercise with armored vehicles at the Lyaur firing range in Tajikistan to practice eliminating mock enemy in the mountains, the Central Military District's press service said on Monday.
"According to the exercise scenario, an illegal armed formation amassed in a mountainous area to boost its forces and prepare for an attack. A group of motorized infantry was tasked to conduct reconnaissance and destroy the illegal armed formation," the press service said.
The servicemen opened fire from AK-74M and A-12 weapons and destroyed the mock enemy, it said. BTR-82A armored vehicles covered the unit's personnel, firing their 30mm 2A42 cannons and 7.62mm Kalashnikov tank-mounted machine guns at the mock enemy's light armor and personnel, the press service said.
Orlan-10 drones carried out reconnaissance and fire adjustment, it said.
The 201st military base in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility abroad. The base is located in the cities of Dushanbe and Bokhtar and consists of motorized infantry, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, radiation, chemical and biological protection, and signals units.
