CIS mission to monitor elections in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia - CIS secretary general

MINSK. Dec 13 (Interfax) - A Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) observation mission will work at the upcoming elections in Azerbaijan, Belarus and Russia, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told reporters.

"Next year will be a year of elections in the leading states of our commonwealth. The first election, a presidential election, will take place in Azerbaijan in February, then there will be elections in Belarus, and the presidential election in the Russian Federation will be held in March. The CIS Executive Committee has already begun preparations to monitor these elections," the Belarusian state news agency BelTA quoted Lebedev as saying.

Lebedev said he has been invited to form and dispatch a CIS mission to monitor these elections. The CIS observers will hopefully cope with this task, he said.

A written invitation from Azerbaijan and verbal invitations from the other countries have already been received, he said.
