Russian destroyer to hold drills in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - The Vice Admiral Kulakov destroyer set off to the Barents Sea for combat training tasks, the Russian Northern Fleet's press service said on Monday.

"The Northern Fleet's Vice Admiral Kulakov destroyer sailed to the Barents Sea today to carry out combat training missions in line with the combat training plan," the press service said.

The destroyer will practice anti-sabotage and anti-submarine defense elements and will perform maneuvers amid limited visibility and intense maritime traffic, it said.

"The ship's crew is expected to conduct training in interaction with the minesweeping forces of the Kola Combined-Arms Flotilla's maritime area defense unit and [Kamov] Ka-27 helicopters from the Northern Fleet's combined air force," the press service said.

The Vice Admiral Kulakov is a Project 1155 ship armed with anti-submarine missile systems, rocket-propelled bomb launchers, torpedo launchers and other types of artillery and missile weapons, according to official data.
