Share of modern weapons in Russian strategic nuclear forces reaches 95% - Putin

MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - The nuclear triad's role has grown significantly under the current circumstances, and the share of modern weapons in the Russian strategic nuclear forces has reached 95%, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"As the nature of military threats is changing and new military-political risks are emerging, the role of the nuclear triad, which maintains the balance of forces, the strategic balance of forces in the world, has grown considerably," Putin said at an expanded meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry board.

"Owing to the consistent implementation of the state armament program and the streamlined work of defense enterprises, the share of modern weapons and hardware in the strategic nuclear forces has reached 95% in general, including practically 100% in the naval component, this year," Putin said.
