MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Russian forces are being rearmed with Yars and Avangard missile systems and long-range aviation is being upgraded, Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov said.
"Over the year, the Armed Forces were working to enhance their combat potential, to improve personnel training and arms and troop control methods, and to equip troops with modern weapons and military hardware," Gerasimov said at a briefing for foreign military attaches on Thursday.
"The strategic nuclear forces continued the planned rearming with Yars and Avangard missile systems and the upgrading of long-range aircraft to ensure the delivery of modern long-range precision-guided cruise missiles," he said.
The Russian Navy commissioned another strategic nuclear submarine of Project Borei-A, the Emperor Alexander III armed with Bulava ballistic missiles, he said.
"The share of modern weapons in the nuclear triad reached 95%," Gerasimov said.
